Which header actions do you prefer?

We have many headers for tasks lists, tasks, conversations, pages but what would be considered to be a better design?

1. Always show ‘Edit and ‘Delete’ links on the right hand side

2. On hover show ‘Edit’ and ‘Delete’ buttons on the left hand side

  • I prefer option number one. That version just seems more natural to me. With the icons in number 2 I don't actually realize that they are there and that they do something.

    The icons look good but they have a small hit zone. Also, assuming this block will be aligned to the left, the icons would be at the very left of the screen instead of the middle, as with the first design. I assume the mouse is more likely to be near the middle.

    So my vote goes for layout one, but with icons ;)
  • The icons are nice but on the wrong place i think. So i prefer number 1!
  • Problem with number 2 is that edit and delete are too close, so it's easy to delete accidentally!

    La opción de los iconos parece más bonita pero creo que es menos usable que la primera. Por lo tanto voto por la opción 1
