Teambox 2 scheduled for November 16th

Pablo Villalba November 7 2009

It’s been some time since we announced Teambox 2 was in the works. Since Andrew joined the team, it was clear how we could all benefit from a new product rewritten from scratch.

Teambox 1 taught us many lessons, and in the way to the new version we’ve done things as they should have been in the first place.

Teambox 2

What’s new?

Feature-wise, the focus has been on collaboration. Teambox 2 replaces the group chat for a Project Overview wall, where you can post updates like in Twitter.

Tasks have undergone a major evolution, and they are now full-featured conversations. This way, it’s easy to plan and keep track of the whole history of the task from the beginning to the end.

The whole interface has been redesigned to have quick access to recently used items. The sidebar is used for project navigation.

What will happen to my data?

All your data will be migrated to Teambox 2, so you will be able to benefit from all the same features and more! Because of this, Teambox will be down for maintenance during Nov 15th.

A cleaner and leaner code

The Rails community has evolved a lot since Teambox was born. So have we. The new release has cleaner templates with HAML, tests with RSpec and Cucumber, fewer dependencies and has been structured in an organized way.

Being an open-source project means having a solid code, easy to understand and extend. You can still use it for free online, or download it for use in your own server!

It’s been a long way, and we’re happy to walk it with you. Without your support, feedback and contributions we’d have never been able to do this. We really hope you enjoy Teambox 2!

Thanks for the chance to get a sneak peak at 2.0! I like the new interface and see a lot of improvements. A couple of hopes--that you will make all of controls accessible by keyboard only. The things that don't show up unless I drag my mouse in just the right spot make this less intuitive. I also noticed that the tab order is off on the tabs. Finally, I think I liked the old task list better. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like you cannot see everything in your task list at one glance. Thanks for this great tool and I look forward to using it!
  • Thank you for checking out the new version! We're very excited about it, too
    :)

Regarding the tab order, it's good you noticed that. We'll take a look at it
as soon as the new version is out. Would you like to create a support
    request for it? http://teambox.tenderapp.com

Also, some more improvements are coming for task lists so they're easier to
    manage. Stay tuned!

Still no sign of Teambox 2.0? Is it going to be back live today or some other time?

    Hello, Pablo,

I tried logging on and as a previously subscribed member I dutifully clicked on the forgot password link to get to reset a new password as required. Unfortunately, I've tried this three times and I haven't gotten any email from Teambox with the link to change my password. I've checked spam box, still not there. Are you just swamped with new requests?

I've lost the description of my tasks!!

Teambox 2 is not worth the hype. Many issues: curvy errors, old http links no longer work, and screens are incomplete in IE ver 7 and 8. Will this be fixed soon?Dale
  • andrewbrown
    1. I've fixed the curvy errors for IE

    2. The old links will no longer work. We had to change them, there was no around that sorry. They very unlikely to change from now.

    3. I've fixed the styling bugs in IE 7 and 8

If you spot any more problems in IE be sure to tell me on http://teambox.tenderapp.com/ and I'll resolve them as quick as possible

Don't know where to post feedback since there's no feedback link inside Teambox itself (add one please?) so here's some feedback:

    1. Many attempts to edit my own Conversation comments bring up an error reading:
"URL The page you were looking for doesn't exist. You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved."

    2. No "Feedback" or "Help" button in the interface. I think this would be important. Maybe try "Uservoice" or something similar.

    3. Uploading a Word .DOC file... Nope. That doesn't seem to work.

    4. Responding via Gmail "Reply" seems to not work. Not sure if the additional text that Gmail keeps in email "Replies" will cause a problem for the "Reply from Email" option.
(This is perhaps the MOST important feature for my teams use of Teambox BTW. I have a team with a few members who want to stay in their email inbox, while others might adopt a new tool. This makes it absolutely crucial that we can use the email response option.

    Hey Geoff,

    1. Yep its broken, sorry this is my fault. This will be fixed either tomorrow or the next day.

    2. Still working on filling out the Help/Support, The Feedback button is gone for now because it was causing errors in certain web-browsers where the page would show up blank. I'll need to throw in a help/support link for now that links to the tenderapp

    3. and 4. This should work. I'll check it out

Thanks for the feedback, sorry for the delayed response. I'm on it
