More than you

Throughout my childhood Microsoft Windows reigned supreme. In those early days of Windows 3.1 (1992 – I was 8 ) Minesweeper was addictive yet annoying, Paint(brush) was my best friend and everything was covered in a blanket of gray. It was never ‘sexy’, only functional. But as the years developed the hardware and software got faster, more reliable and much cheaper for the everyday consumer – encouraging other players to come into the mix.
As I moved onto high school I noticed my love for Windows getting stronger and my hate for Macs rising. The funny thing is that Macs were being marketed to artists, designers and musicians in those days but I still wouldn’t have a bar of it. Oh, how times have changed.
It wasn’t until the bubbly and colourful iMac G3 (1998) arrived that I started to pay serious attention to Mac. While the bubble design itself was very playful, it was the change of status-quo that inspired me. Apple had taken a big chance by going against an industry that didn’t seem to care about the look of the product, only the functionality. In one swoop they had moved away from the boring beige colours that were dominating the market and have continued to innovate through design since.
